Living and Learning at UNC
Our residence halls are not just a place where you can eat and sleep, they are a place where you can live and learn. We offer a variety of Residential Learning Communities and Special Living Options. These communities offer a chance to develop important skills and values such as leadership, service to the community, and academic success.
RESIDENTIAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Many students join both a Residential Learning Community and an Academic Learning Community, but most communities don't require you to participate in both. Students in an academic learning community share a set of courses linked to a theme. Residential Learning Communities have similar themes such as elementary education or the arts and bring students together outside the classroom. The residential communities have a Resident Assistant who also shares the academic interest of the students on the floor. You'll hear more about Academic Learning Communities when you attend the UNC New Student Orientation session or you can read more online at http://www.unco.edu/asa.
Residential Learning Communities are special floors that are co-sponsored by the Department of Housing & Residence Life and a student service or academic department.
